Village of the Damned, Auchmithie's short horror film festival
History of the festival
In 2010, illustrator Helen Macdonald and myself launched Auchmithie's first ever film festival. The Village of the Damned Horror Film Fest was held over Halloween weekend in our studio in the tiny village of Auchmithie on the east coast of Scotland. We screened short films from the UK and the US, exhibited horror-themed art and served our guests with goulish homemade cupcakes. Everyone had a wonderful time and we managed to sell out two of our three screenings.
In 2011, the festival returned with another selection of some of the world's best horror shorts. This year we had a truely international festival with films from as far afield as Australia, Israel, Canada, Finland, Portugal, the UK, Ireland and the UAE all being screened in Auchmithie. We were also were lucky enough to be premiering some of these films in the UK so our audiences enjoyed a real Halloween treat.
As I write this, it's only 1 week since the 2011 festival closed and we've already got requests from filmmakers wanting to show their work next year. Please be assured that VOTD will be back in 2012 with more exciting and groundbreaking horror films from around the world.
